Mobile VoIP – the Most Effective Way of Saving on Telecom Costs
"Due to the advantageous telecom sector flourishing like anything, telecom services are an important part of the cost factor. However, lot of cost can be recovered by implementing novel yet effective technologies like MVoIP (mobile VoIP) and hosted VoIP solutions."
It is said that if VoIP (voice over internet protocol) was big, then MVoIP
(mobile based voice over internet protocol) is even bigger, as in extending the scope even further with new horizons. From short range cordless protocols to 3G, 4G and so on, the development of MVoIP is still in the initial stages, so users can imagine the extent of scope of this set of technologies.
The basics of mobile VoIP is like standard VoIP just that the mobile handset gets integrated into the internet protocol network. As of now, there are 2 main ways to integrate your mobile handset into the VoIP network. First being the commonly used SIP technique where the mobile handset in question is turned into a SIP client (standard). This SIP client manages to send and even receive SIP based messaging via data network. Real-time Transport Protocol or RTP is also used here. One thing to note here is that the mobile handset needs to support the minimum required high speed IP communications.
Similarly, the second method includes the usage of a gateway to bridge SIP along with RTP into the mobile network. The mobile handset is controlled via a SIP application server but would continue to operate via the base technology as in GSM, CDMA etc. This aspect has seen a lot of research and development lately.
One important aspect in terms of the functioning of mobile VoIP is the mobile dialer. Mobile dialers are software/applications which allow cell phones to be turned into VoIP enabled devices. As there are many different operating systems on which mobile phones work, there are many types of mobile dialers made available at the retail end. Also, there are many MVoIP firms which offer their own mobile dialers to their clients.
In the same league, VoIP cellular is the technology via which internet aided phone plans (cell phones) are made available. Cellular VoIP uses an outside service for making calls; outside as in a service which is different from the users’ existing cell phone based plans. When it comes to VoIP cellular technology, though there are some issues quality wise (sound), it works within the segment of international calling. While benefiting via this concept, it is recommended to go for service providers offering the best of voice quality.
